01. What is Self Storage?
Self storage is an incredibly flexible storage alternative. Begun in the US in early 70’s, the Self Storage industry has grown over the years into countries like Australia, Canada, Europe, New Zealand and even Japan.

It is ‘Do-It-Yourself’ storage which offers both personal and business users an economical way of storing items.

Self Storage offers users total control over their property and who enters their storage room.

02. How does Self Storage work? And what makes self storage different from warehouses?
Unlike traditional storage, Self Storage makes it possible for you to rent the space that suits you. Now you don’t need to pay for space you don’t need.

In the past, personal and business users had to rely upon removal companies and large storage organizations to store their items on their behalf and have had to play by their rules with limited access, no flexibility, long-term contracts and high charges.

What is more, the environments which they offer are unclean, dim and equipped with poor security features. With the advent of self-storage, you are given more choice on how you store your items.

03. What is a self storage facility?
Self Storage facility refers to any property designed and used for the purpose of leasing individual storerooms to occupants who need to have access for the purpose of storing and removing personal or commercial property.

Every Self Storage facility varies greatly in terms of the type of environment they offer and general layout. However the features offered by Store-It! include:

04. How much does it cost to store my things with you?
The cost of a storage room depends on the size you require. We know how difficult it can be to determine how much storage space you will need, and so we would recommend that you visit us at our facility and talk to our trained staff so that they can determine your precise needs. This ensures that you do not pay for any more space than you actually require.

05. Can I purchase packaging materials?
Store-It! has a range of packaging products available. From boxes, bubble wrap, packing paper, markers, tape, handy box knives to even padlocks. Just let us know what you need.

06. Does Store-It! provides me with a padlock?
No. You need your own padlock to ensure that you are the sole key holder for your room. You can purchase a new, sealed lock at your local Store-It! facility. No one else has a key to that lock.

07. How do I pay for my storeroom?
A monthly invoice is sent to you for this service. You can mail us a cheque or visit us at our facility to pay by cash or credit card. Your payment terms are spelled out in the storage agreement.

08. Are we covered?
Recognising that many business and domestic customers would prefer insurance protection over their items, Store-It! has worked with AXA, a global leader in wealth management and financial protection, to provide coverage at competitive rates.

At Store-It!, we will do everything we can to avoid theft. However accidents and damage caused by fires, explosions, malicious damage, floods, storms and other natural disasters can still occur.

10. What if I have a household contents policy or other insurance cover?
Your first step should be to contact your home insurer to see if the items you place in the facility will be covered by your domestic home contents policy.

It may be that you are fully covered for goods stored away from home or you may be able to pay an additional premium to get such cover. If you do have your own insurance cover, a key point to remember is that your insurance needs will change if you add to or remove items from the storage space. You may like to check with your insurance provider on this issue.

11. What can I store?
You can store almost anything. Examples of items for storage are furniture, documents, books, building materials, commercial stock, wine, antiques, sports equipment etc.

If you are uncertain whether your items are allowed for storage at our facility, please do not hesitate to contact any of our staff and we will be happy to assist you.

12. What can’t I store?
Items that do not meet requirements for safety are not permitted into storage. These items include

• Hazardous materials such as explosive and inflammable goods
• Perishable items which could decompose i.e. exposed foodstuffs
• Living items such as animals and plants
• Stolen or illegal goods such as drugs, firearms etc

13. Do you have trolleys available?
Yes we do. We have different trolleys and pallet trucks available free of charge for customer use.

14. Is there a certain storage period?
You are welcome to stay for as long as you need storage. However we do require our customers to store for a minimum of 2 weeks.

15. How long is the notice period if I wish to terminate my storage space?
We only require fourteen days notice of your intention to vacate your space.

At this time a refund will be processed for the initial security deposit and any unused monies that you have paid. Notice must be given in writing, either by fax, post or e-mail.

16. What does your storage rental cover? Are there any hidden costs?
The price you are quoted by our staff includes your storage charge, rates, service charges, utility bills and maintenance costs. There are no hidden costs.

You can purchase optional contents insurance which is not included in our rental rates.

A refundable security deposit equal to one month storage charge is payable at the commencement of storage and is refunded when you vacate your storage room.

An administration fee is a one-time charge payable at the commencement of storage. This fee covers administrative and cleaning costs when you vacate your room.

17. Do you provide removal services?
Not at this time. However, we have a list of removal companies which you can contact. For more details, you can enquire at our reception.

18. Will there be someone from Store-It! to help me move my items into the storage space?
Not at this time. However if you do require assistance, please do not hesitate to contact any of our staff and we are happy to arrange this for you.

19. Can I transfer to another room if I find I have too much or too little space?
You are welcome to move to another size room at any time to suit your storage requirements and availability.

20. Do I need to sign a lease?
No you don't, you sign a straightforward storage agreement prior to moving into your room. Your contract is a month-to-month agreement with Store-It!. The agreement comprises a simple one page contract, which takes less than ten minutes to complete.

21. Who can I speak to at your facility if I face problems?
There will always be a trained member of staff available seven days a week during reception opening times.

22. How often can I have access to my goods and how much does it cost for access?
You have access to your property seven days a week, so you can add or remove items from your storage room whenever you require. Access is FREE at Store-It! Self Storage, 24 hours a day.

23. Do you have cooled storage space?
Yes we do. We have facilities which allow you to cellar your wine or store your goods and even fragile possessions.

24. Do you have any discount plans?
Yes we offer prepaid discount plans. The discount rates for 3, 6 & 12 months are 2%, 4% and 8% respectively.
